Citizenship and Community Groups

The Lliswerry Cluster Citizenship project and the Heddlu Bach are the pupil voice groups that meet for the Cabinet for Welsh and Cultural Relations.

Heddlu Bach

Here is our new Heddlu Bach (Mini Police). In order to become members of the Heddlu Bach, pupils in Year 5 completed application forms and had to have an interview. We were the lucky children to be chosen!

CSO Alex Dunne supported the process and commented upon how sensible and articulate we were. We had great ideas for how we could help improve our community and the safety of pupils in our school.

WHat have we done so far?

One of our first assignments was to patrol the One Way System in school to ensure all our parents and carers were complying with the rules and wearing masks. We were pleased to report that nearly all people entering the site were following the rules to ensure school is as safe as possible for everyone at pick up and drop off times.

Watch this space to see what the Heddlu Bach will be up to in the next few months!

The Lliswerry Cluster Citizenship project

We are children from Year 4 who have been chosen to take part in the Lliswerry Cluster Citizenship project.

WHat have we done so far?

The aim of the project is to work with the other schools in our cluster to try and work towards improving our community whilst developing our understanding of what it means to be a Global Citizen.

Children from Lliswerry High School, Lliswerry Primary School, St Andrew’s Primary School, Maindee Primary School, Somerton Primary School and Glan Llyn Primary School have met to discuss the UNICEF Rights of a Child, Global Goals and the Well-Being and Future Generations Act.

From these meetings, we set about carrying out Action Research based on the Barnardo's Finding Your Voice resource. At Lliswerry Primary, we carried out a questionnaire to find out about concerns within the community.

From the questionnaire and the results from other schools, three action points were identified:

  • Reduce Litter in the Community

  • Improve recycling facilities at schools

  • Support a Homelessness Charity.

We have already made links with Keep Wales Tidy and will be taking part in the Great September Clean.

As the we work to address the other actions, we will update this page and our Twitter feed.
