The annual governor report to parents provides a summary of the past school year. This report covers the academic year 2023-2024.
The Governing Body are an integral part of the running of a school. The Governing Body provides support, guidance and governance. The board is made up of different types of Governor; parents, Local Education Authority appointed, community, teaching and non-teaching staff and the Head Teacher.
The Full Governing Body meet once every half term (6 meetings a year) and in these meetings, we discuss school issues, and ensure everything runs smoothly, policies are kept up to date and opportunities to enrich our children’s school experience are examined and developed.
I began my role as a governor at Lliswerry Primary School in 2017 hoping that my background and experience as a staff member with Newport City Council would be beneficial in my new role. I love the challenge and focus on supporting our school in any way that I can. I am immensely proud to be part of our school and witness it continually flourishing. I enjoy gardening, the outdoors and walking, as well as film and theatre . Sharing scrumptious cake over a coffee is often part of my week too!
I have seen at first hand the positive difference that Lliswerry Primary School makes for the children in its care. I am delighted to be able to support the committed, hardworking team to translate the vision of Belong, Empower and Aspire into every day actions that impact positively for the learners.
As a Business Analyst and Agile Coach with a focus on digital transformation, I am passionate about continuous improvement. I believe our children, much like successful projects thrive best when nurtured through collaboration, incremental progress and the right tools and experiences to become better versions of themselves. I became a Parent Governor to offer my experience and insights as a strategic partner to the school and contribute to the development of all the pupils at our school. I am particularly proud to bring a fresh perspective from the Afro-Caribbean community, enriching the diversity of our governing body as we collectively support and empower our children towards their full potential. I look forward to working with the other governors, the school leadership team and our dedicated teachers to help shape a bright and inclusive future.
My area of expertise is in the usage of data and digital solutions in engineering new infrastructure and sustainable communities. I have experience as a STEM ambassador and have presented internationally on the usage of data and tech in education. I became a Parent Governor as I was keen to use my skills to have a positive impact not only in my children's schools but also on the wider community and help the next generation of data experts have the best experience and education possible. I look forward to working alongside the governing body, the community and the fantastic teachers at Lliswerry Primary to continue to push boundaries and enrich our children's learning.
I moved to Wales at the end of 2019 from the state of Florida in the United States. My area of specialty is design and marketing, including community relations with a large non-profit prior to relocation. During my time spent in this country I have enjoyed learning about Wales' rich culture and diversity. As a parent of a child in Lliswerry Primary School, I was grateful to step into the role as Parent Governor. It is my hope to bring my unique skill-set to the table as well as being involved in something far greater than myself. I am excited to be part of such a dedicated and talented team to further enrich our school and provide support those involved with enhancing our children's bright future.
I am a retired diesel engineer for Newport transport, Volvo and Scanias. I live in Lliswerry and have done so for nearly 50 years. I have been married 45 years and am 'Jampa' to 4 grandchildren. I am an active member of Lliswerry Baptist church, including working with youth. I have delivered assemblies to the school as part of my role within Lliswerry Baptist church.
As a senior leader at Lliswerry High School I appreciated the personal and professional occasion to join Lliswerry Primary School Governing body, in order to enhance and develop my own understanding of the primary sector; with particular focus on Curriculum for Wales and the continuum of learning from the primary sector into the secondary sector. In addition, as a lead for transition between Lliswerry Primary School and Lliswerry High School, this opportunity fosters links for both learners and staff across the cluster, therefore ensuring we give equity and excellence to learners within our community and catchment
area and to work towards the cluster vision to ‘inspire, achieve and belong’.
I have taught at the school for 13 years and feel committed and passionate about learners and colleagues at Lliswerry Primary School. I have previously served as a Parent Governor at my children's school and as a Community Governor on the Governing Body of a new school. I believe that my role as one of the teacher governors on the Governing Body allows me the opportunity to not only represent my colleagues but also enable them to have a voice on the Governing Body.
I am one of the Staff Representatives serving on the Board of Governors here at Lliswerry Primary. I joined the school in January 2022 as the Family Support Worker and am really enjoying my time at Lliswerry. Previously, I worked with Newport City Council within the Housing Needs Unit. There are lots of challenges, but I am committed to helping and supporting families and children within our school community. It's an exciting time to be part of the Governing Body and an opportunity for me to help and develop our school.
I am a teacher at Lliswerry Primary School. It is a privilege to represent the teaching staff of our school. I wanted the opportunity to be a Governor to gain a strong understanding of wider school life and build positive relationships with the wider school community. I am looking forward to working with the wider community to continue to develop and build on our school vision.
Most parents would know me as a former Lliswerry Newport City Councillor. I served the Lliswerry ward and community for over eighteen years in that capacity and I deemed it a great honour and privilege. I also am committed to the school and its future and have served as school governor in various capacities for fifteen year
As a former pupil of Lliswerry Primary School I consider it an honour to be appointed as a Governor. All who know me know that I am passionate about this community (which I grew up in) and have been working hard to ensure Lliswerry is a safe, enjoyable area to live. As a City Councillor (elected May 2022) I see it as a natural progression to become a School Governor as the children and parents are members of the Ward and it is an opportunity for me to learn more about the youngest members of our wonderful community.
I am currently a student at Swansea University studying history and politics.
I wanted to be a school governor as it is a brilliant opportunity to play my part to support a school with such hard working pupils and staff. I am looking forward to continue to support the committed staff at the school and work hard to assist young learners in the community. It is an exciting opportunity and time to join the governing body to help continue the hard work and ensure all members belong and encourage them to be empowered and aspire towards the highest ceilings.
